‘Transformers 5’ is forecasted to open the worst of the series

In North America, “Transformers: The Last Knight” debuted at $ 50 million.

Unlike most films released on Friday, Transformers: The Last Knight chose Wednesday (21/6) to air in North America. In the early night of June 20, the film grossed $ 5.5 million. According to Variety and the Hollywood Reporter, the fifth robot series is expected to gross $70 million in its first five days.

If predicted correctly, this is the worst opening act in North America in the history of the series. Three years ago, the fourth – Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) – topped $ 120 million after five days of release.

Tranformers: The Last Knight has a budget of $217 million and Paramount expects to open a new direction for the story. However, the work was crushed by critics with only 16% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The content of the film is too rampant, only to serve for the display of skill. The appearance of star veteran Anthony Hopkins is relatively dim.

In general, the Transformers series tends to gradually reduce revenue in North America since the second part – Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) with 402 million. After that, the third and fourth only earned $ 352 and $ 245 million respectively. This reflects the indifference of the American audience for the heavy blockbuster techniques, loose scenarios – the general weakness of the Transformers series.

To compensate, manufacturers rely on foreign markets. Typically for this move, the fourth part is made with the clear goal of targeting the Chinese market. A large part of the film is set in China, the characters repeatedly use the product of this country and stars Li Bingbing appeared in many scenes. So, Variety also sarcastically said: “Transformers 4 is a work of patriotism … for China.” Finally, the film grossed $320 million in the billion dollar country, higher than in the United States.

Similarly, the Fifth is believed to be looking to the Chinese market to rescue sales. According to Screen Rant, the film could gross $80 million to $100 million in its opening weekend. Box office performance in the coming weeks will greatly affect Paramount’s future plans for the sixth installment and a Bumblebee yellow robot.

Transformers: The Last Knight directed by Michael Bay. The cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Hopkins, Isabela Moner … The story begins when Optimus Prime leaves Earth to reach the distant planet. However, he unexpectedly returned, changed completely and brought forth the mind to kill mankind.
